Heroic Overview

Hans'gar and Franzok is the fourth boss in the Blackrock Foundry raid instance. There are a lot of interesting mechanics to this encounter and how we plan to overcome these challenges I will detail in our strategy section below but for now lets go over the basics of this fight. This is a straightforward one stage encounter that takes place in Slagmill Press in the The Black Forge wing. This fight that requires a lot of movement and a high degree of situational awareness in order to defeat it. The most challenging aspect of this fight is being able to successfully manage both environmental mechanics and boss mechanics simultaneously. The framework for how this fight plays out is that Hans'gar and Franzok share a common health pool and as their health is depleted and hits specific breakpoints this will initiate a boss to exit the floor and activate the converyor belts and a factory machine. Depending on which machine is activated the raid will have to manage either Searing Plates or Pulverize mechanics while at the same time having to contend with the boss's mechanics such as Body Slam. Lets start off this overview by looking at Hans'gar and Franzok abilities.

Environmental Threats

  • Searing Plates is an environmental mechanic that causes hot metal searing plates to come traveling down the conveyor belts. Players who come into contact with a Searing Plate suffer a massive amount of Fire Damage.
  • Pulverized is an environmental mechanic that causes metal stamping presses to come crashing down from up above. The impact location of the of where the press is about to come down is telegraphed and is therefore completely avoidable.
  • Scorching Burns is an environmental mechanic that inflicts a massive amount of Fire damage to all players who come in close contact to the start and end locations of the conveyor belts.

Hans'gar and Franzok

  • Body Slam is ability that both Hans'gar and Franzok cast that causes them to leap towards a random Range raid member afflicting this target and anyone within 12-yards of them with Shattered Vertebrae. Upon landing on his initial leap out he will perform a return leap back to his tank applying Shattered Vertebrae to all players within 12-yards of this tank when he lands.
  • Aftershock is ability that occurs as a result of Body Slam that deals a moderate amount of Physical damage to the entire raid.
  • Crippling Suplex is ability that both Hans'gar and Franzok use upon one boss exiting the room the remain boss will pick up his tank and smash him into the other tank dealing a massive amount of Physical damage equal to their maximum health. This will require a large damage reduction ability to survive this.
  • Pumped Up is a passive ability that both Hans'gar and Franzok can randomly recieve that increases their melee damage, reduces the cast time for Disrupting Roar, increases the number of hammers thrown from Skullcracker and increases the number of leaps performed in a Body Slam.

Franzok

  • Disrupting Roar is an ability that Franzok casts that interrupts all players spell casting when it goes off.
  • Skullcracker is ability where Franzok will target a random Melee player and throw a hammer at them dealing a large amount of Physical damage.

Mythic Changes

On Mythic difficulty Hans'gar and Franzok have more health and deals more damage. There is only one significant change to this is encounter that comes in the form of Smart Stampers. In addition to Smart Stampers Shattered Vertebrae now deals a large amount of Physical damage split evenly amongst all players within 12-yards of his target. Aside from these changes for the most part this encounter feels exactly like its Heroic counterpart. Before I go over the adjustments to our strategy lets take a detailed look at these changes.

  • Smart Stampers are the close cousin to Pulverized. However, unlike Pulverized Smart Stampers will detect the location where a player is standing, highlight the floor underneath them and 10 seconds later a stamping press will come crashing down. Smart Stampers stamping presses persist for a long period of time. Smart Stampers sequence begins and ends when the bosses health is at 100%-85%, 70%-55%, 40%-25%.

Going Ham!

We will use Heroism/Time Warp at the start of the fight to take advantage Dps' cooldowns and potions buffs and that both bosses will both on the floor.

General Positioning

The raid will be divided up into two even sized groups. One group mainly consisting of Range players and the other group made up of Melee players. During the Smart Stampers sequence the Melee group will be positioned to the upper most left quadrant, while the Range group will be positioned the the leftmost side of the room, two rows back so that there is an empty row that separates the two groups from one another. As the Smart Stampers sequence begins the two groups will shift right as the presses queue up to fall. This movement will continue to go left until all space in their respective rows have been exhausted. The groups will then proceed to shift one row back and strafe left across the room as the stamping plates continue to fall. In addition casters need to stop casting whenever Disrupting Roar is out. Tanks you need to use a strong damage reduction ability every Crippling Suplex. Now lets talk about the Converyor Belt.

The most important part of this fight is about avoiding damage from Searing Plates and Pulverized. If you look at the floor Players can stand on the gaps in between the Conveyor Belts to avoid the movement of the belts however those gaps are not exempt from Stamping Presses (Pulverized) and require position adjustments for Searing Plates.

Searing Plates

Searing Plates are activated by Hans'gar. Coming into contact with a Searing Plate inflicts a massive amount of Fire damage. The first couple of sets of Searing Plates are not horizontally aligned with one another so players just need to strafe in between the openings or stand on the opposite side of one of the conveyor belt gaps to avoid getting hit. The proceeding iterations of Searing Plates are horizontally aligned however one of the belts will not have a plate, this essentially acts as an opening in a wall. Players need to move to this location in order to avoid being hit. For each wave of plates the opening will move an adjacent belt.

Pulverized

Pulverized is activated by Franzok. Stamping presses come down in randomized patterns Players have approximately 2 seconds to react and move out of the telegraphed location that is going to be stamped. Stamping presses deal lethal damage.

  • Tank both Hansgar and Franzok on top of one another so Dps can take advantage of cleave damage.
  • If you are targeted with Body Slam make sure that you are grouped up with other players or use an damage immunity ability as now in Mythic Shattered Vertebrae deals a large amount of Physical damage split amongst all other players who are hit by it. The number of leap per slam increase as the bosses health decreases.
  • When applicable perform a tank switch when one tank loses their Shattered Vertebrae debuff.
  • Use Physical damage reduction abilities for Crippling Suplex. The amount of damage dealt from Crippling Suplex is significant so make sure to poll the raid for an external if needed. Remember that Crippling Suplex is used each time a boss exits the room by the remaining boss.
  • Make sure to move with your groups during the Smart Stamper sequences. Its extremely important that you do not move ahead or fall behind as doing so will result badly for the raid and yourself.
  • Be mindful that the raid will take damage from Aftershock. Aftershock damage occurs when the boss does his return leap back to the tank from his Body Slam ability.
  • Stop all casting before Disrupting Roar.
  • Healers be aware that melee will take unavoidable damage from Skullcracker.
  • When the bosses are at low health be aware that they will do increased Physical damage, the cast time for Disrupting Roar will be reduced, the number of hammer thrown from Skullcracker will increase and the number of leap per Body Slam will increase.
  • Make sure to move with your groups during the Smart Stamper sequences. Its extremely important that you do not move ahead or fall behind as doing so will result badly for the raid and yourself.
  • Focus down the boss(es), take advantage of opportunities to multi-dot and cleave when both bosses are on the floor as they share a common health pool.
  • Stop casting during Disrupting Roar.
  • Make sure to move with your groups during the Smart Stamper sequences. Its extremely important that you do not move ahead or fall behind as doing so will result badly for the raid and yourself.
